Overview

Web of Mike (webofmike.com) is a personal technical blog written and operated by Mike Moore in Portland, Oregon. This notice explains what data is collected when you visit, who collects it, why, and how to opt out. It applies to every page on this domain.

The site has no user accounts, no logins, and no comment system. The only information you can give it directly is an email address, if you choose to subscribe to the newsletter.

Information collected automatically

Hosting and delivery. The site is hosted on Netlify and served through Cloudflare. Like every web server, they record standard request logs: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring page, pages requested, and timestamps. These logs are used for security, abuse prevention, and performance, and are governed by the Netlify privacy policy and the Cloudflare privacy policy.

Analytics. This site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which articles are read and how far readers get. Google Analytics sets cookies (such as _ga) and records page views, approximate location derived from your IP address at city level, device and browser characteristics, and on-page events: how far down an article you scroll, how long the tab stays visible, whether you copy a code block, and which outbound links you click. No name, email address, or other directly identifying information is sent to Google Analytics. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, and you can read how Google uses data from sites that use its services.

Advertising

This site uses Google AdSense to display ads.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or to other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. These vendors may also use web beacons and your IP address to measure ad delivery.

You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can opt out of many other third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info/choices. Details of Google’s advertising practices are at How Google uses information from sites that use its services and Advertising: how Google uses cookies.

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you are asked for consent before personalized ads are shown. You can decline, and you can change your choice later by clearing this site’s cookies, which will cause the consent prompt to appear again.

Google is currently the only advertising network on this site. If that changes, this notice will list each additional vendor and link to its opt-out.

Information you provide

Newsletter. If you enter your email address in the subscribe form, it is sent directly to Buttondown, the email service that sends the newsletter, and stored there. It is used only to send you new posts, and it is never sold or shared for any other purpose. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing deletes you from the list. See the Buttondown privacy policy.

Email. If you email the address below, your message and address are kept in an ordinary mailbox for as long as needed to reply and follow up.

Paid services. Consulting described on this site is arranged by email and paid by invoice through a payment processor. This website itself collects no payment card or bank details.

Some posts link to products through affiliate programs (for example HeyPocket via Shopify Collabs). If you buy through one of those links, the merchant pays this site a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate links are labeled in the post, and the merchant, not this site, receives your purchase data.

Cookies

Cookies on this site are set by Google Analytics (measurement) and Google AdSense and its partners (advertising, as described above). The site itself sets no first-party cookies of its own. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site works without them.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13, and no information is knowingly collected from them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data held about you, to object to or restrict its processing, to opt out of targeted advertising, and to withdraw consent. Residents of the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom have these rights under the GDPR; residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Virginia, and other US states with comprehensive privacy laws have similar rights under those laws. To exercise them for data this site controls (the newsletter list and email correspondence), use the contact below. For data held by Google, use the opt-out links above or Google’s own privacy controls.

Changes

Changes to this notice are published on this page with a new date. Material changes to what is collected or shared will be called out at the top of the page.
