## Can you use it without a subscription?

Yes. The part that matters most is on the free plan: unlimited transcription. Most recorders in this category cap free minutes. Plaud's Starter plan and Otter's Basic plan are both 300 minutes a month as of October 28, 2026 ([Pocket vs Plaud](/pocket-vs-plaud/), [Pocket vs Otter](/pocket-vs-otter/)).

What you give up on free is mostly history and polish. Summaries are kept for 30 days, transcripts are standard accuracy, and Ask Pocket is limited to 3 chats a day.

## When Pro is worth it

Pro makes sense if you:

- want summaries to stay searchable after 30 days
- ask Pocket questions across meetings more than a few times a day
- want summaries pushed into Notion, Drive or OneDrive, or tasks into Linear, Asana or ClickUp

If you record a few conversations a week and read the summary the same day, free covers it.
