Can you use it without a subscription?
Yes. The part that matters most is on the free plan: unlimited transcription. Most recorders in this category cap free minutes. Plaud’s Starter plan and Otter’s Basic plan are both 300 minutes a month as of October 28, 2026 (Pocket vs Plaud , Pocket vs Otter ).
What you give up on free is mostly history and polish. Summaries are kept for 30 days, transcripts are standard accuracy, and Ask Pocket is limited to 3 chats a day.
When Pro is worth it
Pro makes sense if you:
- want summaries to stay searchable after 30 days
- ask Pocket questions across meetings more than a few times a day
- want summaries pushed into Notion, Drive or OneDrive, or tasks into Linear, Asana or ClickUp
- use it with Claude or another AI over MCP, where full transcripts and cross meeting questions need Pro (Pocket MCP server setup )
