Pocket has one light, one side button and one slider. That is the whole interface. Here is what each one is telling you. Everything below comes from [Pocket's own docs](https://docs.heypocketai.com/docs/getting-started/status-light) as of October 28, 2026.

## What each light means

| Light | What it means |
| --- | --- |
| Blinking blue | On and ready to pair |
| Solid blue | Paired with the app, idle |
| Solid amber | Recording |
| Solid white | Recording paused |
| Blinking green | Charging |
| Solid green | Fully charged |
| Green, amber or red after a double-press | Battery check: full, about half, low |
| Blinking red | Reset in progress |
| Blinking purple | Firmware update in progress |
| No light | Off, asleep, or out of battery |

The two I see most are solid blue and solid amber. Blue means it is ready. Amber means it is recording.

## What each button press does

| Press | What happens |
| --- | --- |
| Hold 5 seconds | Turn on or off |
| Press once | Start or stop a recording |
| Double-press while recording | Pause (light goes white). Press again to resume. Needs firmware 1.8 or later. |
| Double-press when not recording | Battery check |
| Triple-press, then hold | Factory reset |

## Slider up or down

**Down is Conversation mode.** The two studio mics pick up people in the room. Use it for meetings, interviews and voice notes.

**Up is Call mode.** The contact mic picks up your phone call through the back of the phone, with no speakerphone. Pocket has to be attached to the phone for this to work. The full walkthrough is in [how Pocket records phone calls](/pocket-phone-call-recording/).

Slide back down when the call ends. The contact mic is sensitive and picks up whatever surface the phone is sitting on.

## How to turn Pocket on and off

Hold the side button for 5 seconds. When it turns on, the light blinks blue (not paired yet) or goes solid blue (already paired). Hold for 5 seconds again to turn it off.

## No light at all

Charge it. Pocket's docs say to charge for 10 minutes and try again, or 15 minutes or more if it has been sitting a while. A full charge takes about 1.5 hours. While it charges the light blinks green. Solid green means full.

If it still will not come on, restart it: hold the button 5 seconds, wait 10 seconds, then turn it on again.

## Stuck on blinking blue

Blinking blue for more than 30 seconds means Pocket is waiting for the app. Open the Pocket app, start pairing, and keep the phone close. Toggling Bluetooth off and on helps. More first day fixes are in [how to use Pocket AI recorder](/how-to-use-pocket-ai-recorder/).

## How to reset Pocket

1. Sync first. A factory reset erases what is stored on the device.
2. Triple-press the side button. The light blinks red.
3. Press and hold until the red stops.
4. Let go when the light is breathing blue. It is ready to pair again.
