AI Life / Kitchen / Fridge Cams
The pitch: see inside your fridge from the grocery store, and let AI track what’s about to expire. The tests say the first part works and the second part mostly doesn’t yet. More on the fridge cam hub .
What testers found
- Samsung AI Vision Inside. Consumer Reports found its food recognition identified items correctly about half the time (Consumer Reports ).
- Smarter FridgeCam. An add-on camera for any fridge. Expert Reviews was not impressed (Expert Reviews ).
- Which? looked at whether smart fridges are worth the extra cost (Which? ).
Does it cut waste?
A photo of your shelves helps you avoid buying a third jar of mustard. Automatic expiry tracking depends on recognition, and at roughly 50% accuracy you’d still have to check everything. There’s no published study I found showing fridge cameras reduce household food waste.
Cheaper ways
- A shared grocery list on your phone.
- A “use first” bin at eye level.
- Snap a photo of the fridge before you leave for the store.
If you want AI in the kitchen that actually earns its keep, a meat thermometer or a smart coffee maker is the better buy. Tracking grocery spend is easier in a budgeting app .
