Getting started

  1. Install the thermostat and set it up in the ecobee app. Pick the built-in voice assistant you want: Siri (needs a HomePod as a home hub) or Alexa Built-in (ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium ).
  2. Place the SmartSensor in a room you actually use. It reports temperature and whether the room is occupied (ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium ).
  3. Set a schedule, then turn on eco+ (ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium ).
  4. If you use HomeKit, add it to the Home app as well. ecobee lists Apple HomeKit, Alexa, Google Assistant and SmartThings (ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium ).

How the AI works

Home Assistant options

There are two routes. The official ecobee integration uses ecobee’s cloud. Since Home Assistant 2026.3 it signs in with your ecobee username and password, no developer API key needed, and older keys still work (Home Assistant ecobee ). For local control, add the thermostat through the HomeKit Device integration instead (Home Assistant HomeKit Device ).
