Matter lets one lock work with Apple Home, Google Home and Alexa. Most Matter locks use Thread, so you need a Thread border router.

Before you start

  • A Matter lock.
  • A hub that’s a Thread border router: a recent HomePod or HomePod mini, Apple TV 4K, a Nest Hub (2nd gen) or Nest WiFi Pro, or a recent Echo.
  • The Matter QR code from the lock or its box.

Steps

  1. Install the lock and finish the maker’s app setup if it asks.
  2. Open Apple Home, Google Home or the Alexa app and add a device.
  3. Scan the Matter code.
  4. Name the lock and pick its room.
  5. To add a second ecosystem, use “share” or “turn on pairing mode” in the first app, then scan the new code in the second.
