AI Life / Home / Smart Locks
The Level Lock+ hides the whole mechanism inside the door, so from either side it looks like a normal deadbolt. The Matter version connects over Bluetooth and Matter over Thread, so it works with Apple Home, Google Home and Alexa. There is no keypad and no Wi-Fi; you open it with your phone, a key fob, a key or a tap with Apple Home Key.
I have not owned the Level Lock+ (Matter). This review is built from the maker’s published specs and independent reviews, linked below. For more picks, see the Smart Locks hub .

What reviewers like
- Invisible. Your door looks the same.
- Matter means it works across Apple, Google and Alexa.
- Keeps your style of exterior trim.
What to watch for
- No keypad. Guests need the app, a fob or a key.
- Remote control needs a Thread border router, like a HomePod mini, Apple TV or Nest Hub.
- A single CR2 battery is a less common size to keep on hand.
Who should buy it
Buy it if looks matter and you want Matter across platforms. Skip it if you want a keypad or fingerprint reader for guests and kids without phones.
Matter over Thread
Thread is a low-power mesh network that Matter devices use. To control the lock away from home, you need a border router, such as an Apple TV, HomePod mini or a recent Nest hub. Without one, the lock works by Bluetooth near the door.
Installation
The Lock+ replaces your deadbolt’s internals, and the motor and battery sit inside the bolt. Install takes a screwdriver and some patience aligning the bolt.
Quick answers
Does it have Wi-Fi? No. Matter over Thread and Bluetooth only.
Can I add a keypad? Yes. Level sells an optional Bluetooth keypad that sits within about 10 feet of the door.
Before you buy any smart lock
- Measure your door: thickness, backset (the distance from the edge to the center of the hole) and whether the deadbolt drags. A lock motor struggles with a bolt that sticks.
- Check your ecosystem: Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, Z-Wave or Matter.
- Decide how you will get in when batteries die. Most locks have a key, a USB-C or 9V jump point, or both.
- Think about who gets codes. Guest codes and schedules are a big part of the value, and you can revoke them at any time.
- Renters should check the lease before replacing a lock; a retrofit model may be the safer route.
Who the Level Lock+ suits
Level is a design pick. If your door has hardware you love, or an HOA or building that frowns on visible smart locks, nothing else in this group looks as normal from the street. It also suits people who move between Apple and Google Home, because Matter keeps the lock usable on either. It suits households where everyone has a phone or can carry a key fob. It does not suit families with young kids, dog walkers or cleaners who need a code, unless you add a keypad accessory. Weigh that before you buy, because it is the most common regret reviewers mention with keypad-free locks.
Is the Level Lock+ (Matter) on sale for Black Friday?
It is one of the products I am watching this season. I do not list sale prices here because they change by the hour and differ by color, bundle and store. Compare against the price you see in the weeks before the sale, and check whether a bundle adds things you will not use.
Our take
AI Score note: research-based, not hands-on. The best-looking Matter lock in reviews, for people who do not need a keypad. This is my editorial read of published reviews, not a rating.
