AI Life / Home / Smart Home Hubs
Renters can’t rewire switches or swap the thermostat. SwitchBot’s gear is built around that: stick-on buttons, IR remotes and a hub that ties them together. More on the smart home hub page .
What the Hub 3 does
- IR control. Learns your AC, TV and fan remotes so you can control them from the app or voice.
- Built-in sensors. Temperature, humidity, light and motion, so it can trigger automations on its own.
- Matter bridge. Exposes up to 30 SwitchBot devices to Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa or SmartThings.
- Wi-Fi only. It is not a Thread border router.

Renter automations
These use only the hub’s documented features:
- Cool the bedroom before bed. When the hub’s temperature sensor reads high at night, turn on the window AC through IR.
- Turn the TV off when no one’s there. Motion sensor sees nothing for an hour, send the IR off command.
- Humidity fan. If humidity climbs, switch on a fan through IR or a smart plug.
- One-button leave home. A scene that turns off the AC, TV and lights together.
What to watch
- IR has no feedback. The hub sends the command but can’t confirm the AC turned on.
- If you want Thread devices, you’ll need a separate border router.
