Getting started

  1. Set the dock somewhere with clear space on both sides and plug it in. Add the robot in the Roborock app.
  2. Run a mapping pass first and fix the room split in the app before you schedule anything.
  3. Pick up cables and socks for the first runs. Obstacle avoidance is good, not magic.
  4. Turn on SmartPlan if you’d rather let the robot pick suction and mopping by room (Roborock Saros 10R ).

How the AI works

  • Navigation: Roborock calls it the StarSight Autonomous System 2.0, using a 3D time-of-flight solid-state LiDAR and VertiBeam lateral obstacle avoidance (Roborock Saros 10R ).
  • SmartPlan: Roborock describes “AI-Driven Cleaning” that sets the plan for each room (Roborock Saros 10R ).
  • Voice: the robot has a built-in Intelligent Voice Assistant, plus Alexa, Siri Shortcuts and Google Home support, and an Apple Watch app (Roborock Saros 10R ).
  • Where it runs: obstacle detection runs on the robot. Maps, routines and the app go through Roborock’s cloud. Home Assistant’s docs say maps and routines always come from the cloud (Home Assistant Roborock ).

Matter or the Roborock integration?

The Saros 10R supports Matter (Roborock Saros 10R ). Matter gives fast local updates but fewer controls. Home Assistant’s Roborock integration gives more, but it needs your Roborock cloud account. It talks to the robot locally when it can and falls back to the cloud (Home Assistant Roborock ). In 2025 some newer models were forced onto cloud fallback by a protocol change (GitHub issue ).

Can Claude or ChatGPT control it through Home Assistant?

If the device is in Home Assistant, yes, indirectly. Home Assistant’s Model Context Protocol integration makes Home Assistant an MCP server that Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code and other MCP clients can connect to over OAuth. With the Device control tool set, the agent only sees entities you have exposed to Assist. Cloud agents need your Home Assistant reachable from the internet. Source: Home Assistant MCP server docs .

Connecting AI agents safely

If you hook a device or account up to an AI agent, the agent gets the same access you do. I write about doing that safely:
