AI Life / Home / Robot Vacuums
The Dreame X50 Ultra is a flagship robot vacuum and mop with a party trick: ProLeap, a pair of retractable legs that lift the robot over thresholds that stop most robots.
I have not owned the Dreame X50 Ultra. This review is built from the maker’s published specs and independent reviews, linked below. For more picks, see the Robot Vacuums hub .

What reviewers like
- Independent testing found it reliably cleared about 3.8 cm and handled about 5 cm in one test.
- Strong hard-floor cleaning.
- A full-service dock means less hands-on work.
What to watch for
- It did not clear the 6 cm two-tier claim in Robot Review’s testing.
- Carpet performance is mixed compared with newer high-suction rivals.
- It climbs thresholds, not stairs.
Who should buy it
Buy it if raised door sills, sliding-door tracks or uneven floor transitions strand your current robot. Skip it if your floors are flat; you would pay for climbing you never use.
Test your thresholds first
Measure the tallest sill the robot must cross. If it is under 2 cm, most robots manage. Between 2 and 4 cm is where the X50 Ultra earns its keep. Above that, check reviewer tests rather than the box claim.
Robot vacuum checklist
- Measure under your furniture. A low profile only helps if your sofa and bed clear it.
- Count thresholds. Most robots handle small lips; tall door sills and sliding-door tracks are where models differ.
- Decide on the dock. Self-emptying saves daily effort. Mop washing and drying docks are larger and need water tanks refilled, or a plumbing kit where offered.
- Budget for parts. Bags, filters, brushes and mop pads are ongoing costs. Check that the brand sells them easily in your country.
- Look at the app. No-go zones, room-by-room schedules and per-room suction settings are what make a robot fit your house.
AI features that actually work
The useful AI in a robot vacuum is obstacle recognition: spotting cables, socks and pet mess and steering around them. It works well on the best models and less well in dim rooms, so leave a light on or schedule runs in daylight. Room recognition and auto-generated maps save setup time. Voice assistants and chat-style app features add little.
Privacy
Camera-equipped robots capture images of your floors to recognize objects. Check whether images stay on the robot or upload to the cloud, turn off any photo upload or remote video you do not need, and set a PIN on remote camera viewing if the app offers it.
Ongoing costs
Plan on replacement dust bags, filters, side brushes and mop pads or rollers over a year. Buy from the maker or a reputable seller, since cheap third-party parts vary in fit. There is no subscription needed for core cleaning on these models.
Quick answers
Will it replace my upright? For daily maintenance, mostly yes. You will still want a stick or upright for stairs, upholstery and deep carpet cleaning now and then.
How often should it run? Daily in pet homes, every two or three days elsewhere. Shorter, frequent runs keep floors cleaner than one long weekly run.
Is the Dreame X50 Ultra on sale for Black Friday?
It is one of the products I am watching this season. I do not list sale prices here because they change by the hour and differ by color, bundle and store. Compare against the price you see in the weeks before the sale, and check whether a bundle adds things you will not use.
Our take
AI Score note: research-based, not hands-on. The best answer for tricky thresholds in published tests, with ordinary carpet results. This is my editorial read of published reviews, not a rating.
