Most robot pool cleaners are marketed for in-ground pools. Above-ground pools have soft vinyl walls, a flat floor and often a ladder in the way. Check pool type support first. More on the pool robot hub .
The pick
The Beatbot AquaSense 2 supports above-ground and in-ground pools, runs up to four hours on the floor, and parks at the surface when it’s done (Beatbot ). Independent testing measured 226 minutes of runtime with 48% battery left, though the 2L basket is small (RobotsForThat ). See the AquaSense 2
The Aiper Scuba X1 is a good robot, but it’s listed for in-ground pools only, so it’s out for this use (Smart Pool Cleaners ). Aiper sells other models; check the pool type on any one you consider. See Aiper's lineup
What to check
- Pool type on the spec sheet. It should say above-ground explicitly.
- Wall climbing. Many above-ground owners only need floor cleaning. Floor-only models cost less.
- Weight and retrieval. Reaching over a tall wall to lift a wet robot is awkward. Surface parking helps.
- Ladder clearance. Robots can get stuck behind A-frame ladders.
