I had Nest WiFi, then moved to UniFi. Here’s how they compare, using my ratings and the specs from Google and Ubiquiti.
| Google Nest WiFi / Nest WiFi Pro | UniFi (Dream Router 7, U7 APs) | |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | Phone app, a few taps | UniFi app or web console, more options |
| Control | Basic: guest network, family controls | Deep: VLANs, per-device stats, channel planning |
| WiFi tuning | Automatic | Automatic channel optimization, plus manual control |
| Outdoor coverage | Add more points indoors | Dedicated outdoor APs |
| Subscription | None required | None required |

Who each fits
- Nest WiFi: you want simple setup in a normal-size house and don’t want a dashboard.
- UniFi: big property, outbuildings or yard coverage, or you want to see and control everything. That’s why I switched.
