UniFi has a reputation as gear for IT people. For some homes it's the right call, and for others it's too much.

## UniFi fits if

- You have a large lot, a detached garage, a shop or a yard that needs WiFi.
- You can run Ethernet to access points.
- You want to see every device and set up separate networks for cameras or guests.

## Skip it if

- You want to plug in and forget it in a small home.
- You can't run cable and don't want to.

## Cost shape

There's no subscription. You buy a gateway (a Dream Router 7 includes WiFi) and add access points as needed. Prices are on the [Ubiquiti Store](https://store.ui.com/).
