The Ring Battery Doorbell Pro is the top of Ring’s 2025 Retinal 4K lineup: a battery doorbell with 4K video, 10x zoom and 3D motion detection. It installs without doorbell wiring. Like every Ring device, the free tier gives you live view and notifications, and a subscription saves recordings and turns on the smart alerts.
I have not owned the Ring Battery Doorbell Pro. This review is built from the maker’s published specs and independent reviews, linked below. For more picks, see the Doorbells hub .

What reviewers like
- Picture. PCMag calls the 4K quality impressive, and 10x zoom lets you read a face or a label.
- No wiring. Tom’s Guide calls it Ring’s top-end doorbell, untethered.
- 3D motion detection lets you set precise zones and see where someone walked.
What to watch for
- Without a Ring plan, nothing is saved. Live view and alerts only.
- Battery life depends on traffic and settings; a busy door means more charging.
- Ring’s AI features ride on Amazon’s cloud, which some households will not want.
Who should buy it
Buy it if you rent or have no doorbell wiring, want the sharpest picture, and already use Alexa or Ring. Skip it if you will not pay a monthly fee; the Eufy E340 stores clips locally.
What the Ring plan buys
Ring is clear about the split. Free: live view, notifications and two-way talk. With a plan: saved video, person and package alerts and the newer AI features. Ring’s 2025 launch also added Alexa+ powered features across its cameras. If you skip the plan, you have a very sharp peephole.
Search Party is separate
Ring’s Search Party, announced with the 4K cameras, uses outdoor Ring cameras in a neighborhood to help find lost dogs and share sightings, per the Ring blog. It is a community feature, not part of the doorbell’s subscription, and you can opt out.
Battery or wired
The Battery Doorbell Pro can run on its battery or connect to existing doorbell wiring for trickle power. If you have wiring, use it. If you do not, plan a charging routine and set motion zones tight to stretch battery life.
Privacy
Ring has tightened its policies after past criticism, including end-to-end encryption options. Read the current settings for video sharing, police requests and neighborhood features, and turn off what you do not want.
Alternatives
- Nest Doorbell (wired, 3rd gen). Best in Google Home, with Gemini alerts.
- Eufy Video Doorbell E340. Dual cameras, local storage, no plan needed.
Quick answers
Can I use it without a subscription? Yes, for live view, notifications and two-way talk. Nothing is recorded.
Does it work with Google Home? Ring is an Amazon company and is built for Alexa and the Ring app. Google and Apple support is limited.
How long does the battery last? It depends on how many events it records, your settings and the weather. Ring’s app shows battery level and how many events drained it, which helps you tune zones.
Is 4K worth it on a doorbell? The extra detail matters most when you zoom in on a face or a label. If you only check who is at the door, 2K is enough.
Is the Ring Battery Doorbell Pro on sale for Black Friday?
It is one of the products I am watching this season. I do not list sale prices here because they change by the hour and differ by color, bundle and store. Compare against the price you see in the weeks before the sale, and check whether a bundle adds things you will not use.
Our take
AI Score note: research-based, not hands-on. The sharpest battery doorbell in reviews, with the subscription as the real price of admission. This is my editorial read of published reviews, not a rating.
