AI Life / Home / Companion Robots
Most home companion robots in 2026 are a camera on wheels with a personality layer. That’s not a knock. A camera that can drive to the room you care about is genuinely useful for some homes. More on the companion robot hub .
What they do well
The Enabot EBO Air 2 is the clearest example. Reviews describe a small rolling robot with a 2K camera, night vision, two-way audio and a laser pointer mode for cats (Irish Times ). It can roam, check on pets, and play with them while you’re out. The Irish Times listed it at €230. See the EBO Air 2 on Amazon
Where they fall short
Reviewers report the same weak spots: Wi-Fi drops when the robot moves far from the router, docking that doesn’t always work, short battery life, and trouble on thick rugs (The Pet Dude , Alex Reviews Tech ). A fixed camera doesn’t have those problems.
Who they suit
- Cat owners who want remote play, not just watching.
- Homes with several rooms where one fixed camera can’t see everything.
- Not for security. A security camera records reliably and alerts on people. See local AI cameras for that.
Novelty or useful?
Useful for a narrow job, novelty for everything else. If your goal is “watch the dog and toss a treat,” a treat-tossing pet camera is the more reliable buy. If your goal is “play with the cat from work,” a rolling robot is the only thing that does it. Read the Enabot EBO Air 2 pet sitter guide for the details.
