The Garmin Dash Cam X310 is a compact front-facing 4K dash cam with a touchscreen, voice control and driver alerts. It is Garmin's best dash cam per TechRadar, and it is small enough to hide behind the mirror.

I have not owned the Garmin Dash Cam X310. This review is built from the maker's published specs and independent reviews, linked below. For more picks, see the [Car AI hub](/ai-life/gadgets/car-ai/).

## What reviewers like

- Small and clean. It disappears behind the mirror.
- Voice control. Say save video and it does, hands on the wheel.
- Sharp 4K footage per Digital Camera World.

## What to watch for

- Reviewers found the driver alerts overly sensitive with false warnings. Turn off the ones that nag you.
- Front only. For rear or cabin coverage, look at Vantrue or Nextbase.
- The connected features need a Vault plan and hardwired power.

## Who should buy it

Buy it if you want a discreet front camera with voice control. Skip it if you drive rideshare or want cabin and rear coverage.

## Footage

The X310 records 4K with HDR through a 140 degree lens, and Digital Camera World calls the footage sharp for a camera this small. A 1080p mode at 120 fps helps with reading plates in fast motion. GPS stamps location and speed. Footage goes to a microSD card up to 512 GB, and you can pull clips to your phone over Wi-Fi through the Garmin Drive app.

## Alerts

Garmin includes forward collision warnings, lane departure warnings, a go alert when traffic ahead moves, and speed camera alerts. Reviewers found the collision and lane warnings overly sensitive, with false alerts on normal roads. Every alert can be turned off. Most people keep the go alert and the speed camera warnings, and switch the rest off.

## Voice control

Say a command and the X310 saves a clip, takes a photo or starts audio recording, without taking your hands off the wheel. TechRadar counts it as one of the best features, and it is the reason to choose Garmin over a cheaper no-name cam.

## Parking and the cloud

Parking Guard alerts you when the car is bumped, and Live View lets you look through the camera remotely. Both need constant power from a hardwire kit or Garmin's cable, Wi-Fi in range of the car, and a paid Garmin Vault plan, per TechRadar and Tom's Guide. Without those, it is an excellent local dash cam.

## Before you buy

Decide whether you need more than the road ahead. Most insurance disputes are about what happened in front of you or behind you, and the X310 only covers the front. If you want rear coverage, Garmin sells separate cameras that link through the app, but a three-channel kit like the Vantrue does it in one box. Use a high-endurance microSD card made for continuous recording.

## Alternatives

- **Vantrue N4 Pro S.** Three cameras, no plan needed.
- **Nextbase iQ.** 4G live view and Emergency SOS on the top plan.
- **Garmin Mini series.** Smaller and cheaper, without the screen, per Garmin's lineup.

## Our take

**AI Score note:** research-based, not hands-on. The best small front-only dash cam here, with alerts you will probably tune down. This is my editorial read of published reviews, not a rating.

Prices move a lot in November. Check today's price before you buy: {{< amzn garmin-x310 "See the Garmin Dash Cam X310 on Amazon" />}}.
