How to choose
- Music first: Sonos. It’s built around multi-room audio, and that’s where my rating comes from.
- You live in Apple’s world: HomePod. AirPlay and Siri work well with an iPhone, but it does less outside that.
- Cheap voice control: Echo. It works, but I rated it lowest of the four.
- Google and Nest home: Nest speakers and displays tie into Nest cameras, doorbells and thermostats.
