Skylight Calendar 2 Review: A Family Calendar on the Wall

Skylight Calendar 2 review from published specs and tests: a 15 inch 1080p touchscreen that syncs family calendars and chores, with Sidekick AI behind the Plus plan.

AI Life / Assistants / Smart Displays

The Skylight Calendar 2 is a 15 inch touchscreen that hangs on a wall or sits on a counter and shows the whole family’s schedule. It syncs with the calendars you already use and adds chore charts, lists, meal plans and a photo screensaver. An AI assistant called Sidekick can read a school flyer or a screenshot and add the events for you, if you pay for the Plus plan.

I have not owned the Skylight Calendar 2. This review is built from the maker’s published specs and independent reviews, linked below. For more picks, see the Smart Displays hub .

What reviewers like

  • Everyone can see it. Wirecutter’s tester says even her 10-year-old started helping out once the schedule was on the wall.
  • The free tier is real. Calendar sync, tasks and lists work without a subscription.
  • WIRED calls it Skylight’s best digital calendar yet.

What to watch for

  • The AI is behind Plus, which is a yearly fee on top of the device.
  • Sidekick is inconsistent. Reviewers saw parsing misses, wrong dates and duplicate events from imported documents.
  • It is a calendar, not a smart display. No assistant, no camera, no smart home control.

Who should buy it

Buy it if your family’s schedule lives in three phones and a paper calendar and nobody knows what is happening Thursday. Skip it if one person already runs the calendar fine, or if you want an all-purpose smart display.

What Sidekick does

Sidekick is Skylight’s AI layer. You can forward an email, snap a photo of a flyer or a fridge, or paste text, and it turns that into calendar events, lists or recipes. It can also suggest activities and plan meals, per WIRED. When it works, it saves the tedious part of a family calendar: typing in every practice and early dismissal. Tech Between the Lines found it genuinely useful but unable to get out of its own way at times, so check what it adds, especially dates.

Free vs Plus

The free tier covers what most families buy it for: synced calendars on a big screen, chores and lists. Plus adds Sidekick, meal planning, the rewards system for kids, the photo screensaver and Magic Import. Reviewed’s advice is to try the free features first and decide on Plus after a few weeks.

Where to put it

A kitchen wall near an outlet, at eye level for the shortest person who needs it. Wall mounting needs a cord run; tabletop is easier if you are not ready to drill.

Alternatives

  • A shared Google or Apple calendar plus a Nest Hub. Cheaper, but nobody looks at a small screen.
  • Echo Show. Shows calendars, but it is an assistant first and has a camera.
  • A paper wall calendar. Free and always on. Skylight’s case is that it updates itself.

Quick answers

Does everyone need the app? No. Anyone can add events by syncing their own calendar, and you can email events to the calendar’s own address. The app helps for chores, lists and settings.

Which calendars does it sync? Google, Outlook, Apple iCloud, Cozi and Yahoo, per Skylight.

What is Skylight Plus for? The paid plan adds the more advanced features, including AI tools that turn photos, emails and PDFs into events. The basic calendar works without it, so try it first and upgrade only if you miss something.

Is the Skylight Calendar 2 on sale for Black Friday?

It is one of the products I am watching this season. I do not list sale prices here because they change by the hour and differ by color, bundle and store. Compare against the price you see in the weeks before the sale, and check whether a bundle adds things you will not use.

Our take

AI Score note: research-based, not hands-on. The best family calendar screen in reviews, with AI that is helpful but needs checking. This is my editorial read of published reviews, not a rating.
