Getting started

  1. Plug in the Hub and set it up in the Google Home app.
  2. To get Gemini, check that the Hub runs firmware 28 or later and the Home app is version 4.1 or later, then join early access where it is offered (Google: Gemini for Home ).
  3. Know that the switch is one way. Google says you can’t go back to Google Assistant once a device moves to Gemini (Google: Gemini for Home ).
  4. If you want Sleep Sensing, turn it on yourself. It is off by default (Google: Sleep Sensing ).

How the AI works

  • Gemini for Home: Google lists the Nest Hub 2nd gen for the complete Gemini experience, including Gemini Live with a Google Home Premium plan. Basic Gemini features don’t need a subscription (Google: Gemini for Home ).
  • Where it runs: Gemini runs in Google’s cloud. Camera history search needs the Advanced plan (Google: Gemini for Home ).
  • Sleep Sensing: uses Motion Sense, a low-energy radar, not a camera. Google says cough and snore audio is processed only on the device, sleep data goes to Google Fit, and it is not used for personalized ads. You can delete it (Google: Sleep Sensing ).
  • Who it reads: anyone sharing the sleep spot can affect the data (Google: Sleep Sensing ).
